I live in Round Rock and am planning some day tours to the Fredericksburg area, but had some questions for anyone with much experience in the area. How is H-290 to ride on (from Austin to Fredericksburg)? I'd prefer riding Bee Cave from Austin to FM-12 to Fitzhugh and to Pedernales State Park, and then to Fredericksburg. How bad is Bee Cave in terms of climbing? Anyone been to Pedernales? What's the area like for camping and the like? I'd like to stop off there a few times on day trips to camp. Paid camping only? Busy area?

Any information would be appreciated!

I'd avoid 290. There is a shoulder but the traffic is going about 80 MPH all the time. Bee Cave is hilly but not too bad. I've not been past Fitzhugh, so I can't help you there. Pedernales State Park does have camping, but I've never camped there.

It appears I not much help, but do avoid 290.
