Tandem Cycling - New to the forum, hello from Copenhagen Denmark

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings, all you brave tandem teamies out there.

Now weīve read this forum for some months, and thought it was about time to say hello.

Right away, we want to thank everyone for the inspiration.
Weīve been in the deciding stages of purchasing a tandem for a long time, and now itīs here..... the Cīdale MT2000.

And what a bike! So far, we only did 500K. The long great white arrived early december, and itīs cold/icey/salty here in the wastelands of Denmark.
But spring will soon be here, and we just canīt wait to get out there and explore the potential of our new wonder.

Captain started mountainbiking in ī87, had own bikeshop, crewed for the Danish National team for 7 years (mechanic), did roadriding too. Still works in bike retail.

Stoker supreme took up mountainbiking March ī03 and have been riding bikes all her life.

So, how many of you are on tandem mountainbikes... and do you do offroad?

Over the years I've conducted a few polls that seek to quantify how many folks own and ride tandems off-road. At least among the internet dwellers, it would appear as though somewhere between 15 - 19% of the very active folks who own, ride, and discuss tandems on the internet have an active interest in off-road tandeming. Within that segment, perhaps 10% spend the majority of their riding time on tandems off-road.

As another indicator, I host an off-road tandem enthusiasts list at YahooGroups called Double_Forte. We have something over 250 subscribers and there are perhaps 20 folks who are very active posters to the list who, for those who have identified themselves in our Rogue's Gallery, reside in the US, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Belguim, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and Israel. I'm sure there are several other countries represented by folks who prefer to merely lurk on the list.

It goes without saying, yes, we have been off-road tandem owners and riders since 1999.

Here's one that Rides a Dale MT2000, and have got to admit that This is the way to go Mountain Biking. I have been Mountain Biking since1990, and only had the tandem for 2 years. Due to Stuart being a Better pilot, I am the Stoker and Proud of it. I may have bought the dale, maintain it and pay for the upgrades, but with Stuart up front, this tandem works. Don't how how competent you are yet, but keep in touch with this forum to improve both your knowledge, and ours.
