Texas - ATX bike events in the next week, plus THE FUTURE!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Lots of good stuff coming up that you guys should know about, specifically two of my favorite events that just happen to be going down in the next 7 days...

Full Moon Cruise (Saturday the 16th - http://atxbs.com/?q=node/315) - Damon's been organizing these for about a year and a half now, and they just keep getting bigger and better. Last year around this time there were maybe 60-80 people showing up for these rides, now we're regularly seeing 200+ and Damon's taken us to nearly every corner of the city on these after-midnight rides. The only direction we haven't gone recently is SOUTH, so guess where we're going this week...

Midnight Ridazz Mad Max Ride (Tuesday the 19th - http://atxbs.com/?q=node/314) - I've only made it out to 4 of these rides so far but they've easily become my favorite theme rides in town. Every month there's a different one and everybody gets into it. The rides range in size from 20-50 people, and due to being a pub crawl they're much mellower and better for the beginner cyclist. If you're worried about getting dropped in the middle of strange wilderness (or South Austin) on the moonlight cruise, then suit up in post-apocalyptic style and show up for the Midnight Ridazz ride!

-----------------------------

Now beyond this month there are a couple INCREDIBLY badass events coming up:

Some time mid-September the Bicycle Film Festival (http://bicyclefilmfestival.com/2008_site/austin/) is going to be travelling through these parts. There's not a lot of information on the website as of yet, but keep posted and I'll share more as soon as I see it. Everything I've heard about this event makes it sound really killer, and the fact that we won't have to travel to check it out makes it over 9000 times better.

Also in September is the Annual Harvest Moon Cruze. This is the big one, boys and girls. 400+ cyclists taking to the streets at 2am to ride all over Austin. I know Damon's deferring the monthly full moon rides to this insane yearly tradition (over 25 years now), and I'll be sure to publish the date as soon as the phantom ghost who spreads such things lets me know when that date'll be. This ride last year was an eye-opener for me, I can't wait to see how much bigger it is this year.

Finally, into the WAY WAY future... BIKE PORN (http://bikeporntour.blogspot.com) is coming to Austin! It looks like it'll be happening either October 31st (after Critical Mass) or November 1st, but this is an event I'm sure y'all don't want to miss! Check their website for more details but since this combines two of my favorite things, I'm really ****ing amped over here.

---------------------------------------

Critical Mass also happens on the 29th, which is the last Friday of the month. Hope to see some of y'all out and about!
