Ok, it was only 45 miles apparently, but was listed as a 50 mile course. There were a couple of other BF members who rode this route a week ago. They convinced me I could do it. I happen to meet another BF member who offered to ride with me. Since I had a riding partner I was committed to doing the ride.
We finished in about 3 hours. It was a milestone in my riding. Some might suggest I should have done another 5 miles to get to my 50. I will be honest the last two miles my thighs were hurting and I don't think I could have eecked out another 5. The last 15 miles seemed to have some grade to them. My legs were doing fine until the end, then they started burning like if I was climbing a hill, but there wasn't any recovery when I got a break. I stretched after the ride and then when I got home again. After showering they feel fine:thumb:
I learned I need to make some small adjustments to my bike. One of my knees was a little sore and the foot on that side was also sore, I think I need to figure out how to adjust my pedals.
But overall I'm glad I did it. I will let you know tomorrow for sure:D

Good job! Now aren't you glad you did the 50. :) It is a good course for a first 50 (45) miler. You picked a nice day for it too! Next thing you know you'll be ready the the hillfest locally known as the Lilac Suprise Ride next April. LAB
Oops! I forgot to add, if it's windy out there on the west plains, we figure that's a good enough reason to bump the mileage up to 50. :D

Congrats, I was trying to get some of the Houston BFers together for a 50 just before I turn 50: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=449413 .
My first 50 was a bit unintentional. Just exploring, Riding out and back. Later on found out how far I went when I mapped it out.

Here is one of the things I learned on my ride. I only experienced shortness of breath (SOB) going up some of the hills. I found I didn’t like the SOB. While the SOB was around it was miserable, but once the SOB left things were great. I learned to try to avoid the SOB. Occasionally, the SOB would sneak up on me and I would have to tolerate the SOB until the SOB left.
Riding with the SOB can make for a long day. My suggestion is to avoid the SOB when riding; it makes it nice to be SOB free.

Historian- I am awaiting the report of your tour. You have got me thinking I may want to try a bike trip.

My fun starts tomorrow morning. I may have to ride to the rental car place. 11 miles by car, 18 by bike. :(

I was dbikingman's partner, it was nice to meet a fellow BF rider. West plains is my territory so I kinda knew what to expect on the 50 mile ride. To date that was the best route I have ridden on my cycle, I have rode along the river a number of times but getting out there along the wheat fields and lakes was a nice shift. Dbikingman was very friendly and motivated for this ride, just like him my legs were starting ache towards the end of the ride as they apparently knew they were near the finish :(.
I am going to explore the 80 mile route tomorrow with my brother who just smokes me, but its good to get a work out.
Congrats on your first 50 miler dbikingman, look forward to riding a couple more times before winter hits.

1bluetrek hope you make it to Spokefest. We maybe putting together a small group to do this ride again, let me know if you interested. The pace will probably be around 13 -15 depending on the group makeup.
