Hey, music buffs. Anybody here ever played the piano version of PAAE? I want to get the sheet music and try it, but as far as I'm concerned it's a virtuoso piece. I can safely say I'm advanced, but that piece just looks freaking hard (68 pages?). Same goes for Sonata No. 14. Uh, the Beethoven one.
Doable, yay or nay?

Heathen.
What I love about PAAE is that it's great solo or with Ravel's orchestration.
It's modular by nature, have you tried just a few chunks? I can't play piano at all, so I'm jealous of the possibility of even playing just the Promenade.

I've tried it, it's a lot of fun, go for it.
I have little hands, so I have trouble playing the big chords, but it is fun. There are some bits I'd have a hard time getting up to tempo though. :innocent:

I always thought the Ravel orchestration was totally wussified. I feel like there's so much more character to the original piano version.

Looks tough. I've been playing music in the alto clef (viola) for a while. I've been composing music, but it's way easier to play your own stuff than to read sheet music.

Sviatoslav Richter's incendiary performance sets the standard, I think. Compare the Great Gate of Kiev section performed by Richter to any orchestral version and just marvel.

I agree that they are very different. If you prefer the piano, I wouldn't argue that you're wrong.
