Bicycle Mechanics - bottom bracket issue

Earlier this evening, I was installing an Octalink bb(68x109.5) onto my new Leader frame. I was able to turn down the crank side of the bb flushed to the frame but when I was turning down the left side, it stopped almost 2mm away from the frame. It is my first buildup on my own and any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the threads aren't crossed/stripped. You do know that the left side is reverse threaded right?

Wrong. On an English bottom bracket, the right-hand side is left-threaded, the left-hand side is right threaded.

Primate: what you're seeing is normal for Shimano cartridge bottom brackets. There's usually a couple threads showing when the retaining rings are bottomed out on the cartridge. It's not a problem.

This is how you install a BB: Screw in driveside leaving about 5 mm gap. Then put on the non-driveside cup all the way in. Finally, go back and finish off the driveside. Works every time.

It's not a problem.

reread his post. it is an octalink bb, not a square taper bb.
should be flush, no threads should be showing.

I would leave more than a 5mm gap. More like 10mm if not more.

I think a little bit of a gap is okay. That said, I'd try like hell not to have one before I settled. Try the tricks above. Also some grease on the NDS cup - cartridge interface might help things slip together.
