General Cycling Discussion - I made it. I'm in the club.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Completed my first century yesterday. I rode the Tour de Palm Springs. Actually it was 104.49 miles according to my computer. I did it in 8 hours and 20 minutes riding time. (9 hours and 50 minutes by the clock)
The ride was much better organized than my last one, the Rosarito to Ensenada. There were five SAG stops with water, gatorade, bananas, oranges, protein bars, and sandwiches.
I did pretty good on the forst half. Miles 60 through 75 were the toughest. For the last 25 miles I don't think I got over 11 MPH unless I was coasting downhill.
When I got home I plunked myself into a hot bath for half an hour, got a little something to eat and then went to bed and slept for 10 hours straight. This morning I felt like a new man (except for the sore wrists, knees, and butt ;) ) Recovery day today,

Great job. I've heard centuries compared to hitting your hand with a hammer, it feels good when you stop.

Congrats. I'm waiting to do mine for this month. I missed last month. Either I'll get it in on my trip to AZ, or when I get back, the weather's suppose to be mild.

100 milers are great to think about, and everyone should do one. My first one took in Brassknocker hill at 50 miles(Uk Riders now know it is the Salisbury 100) That is the big hill, and it is big and is notorious. What an achievement for me to cycle up that at the first attempt. Like you I ran out of steam from 60 to 70 miles. I may be younger than you, but we did not stop and completed in 8 hours 15 mins, or perhaps it is an easier ride. Several attempts later, and a few years on, I now do it in 8 hours 15minutes. It still hurts, Brassknocker still frightens me, I still run out of steam after 60 miles, and I now spend 2 days recovering from it. THEY DONT GET ANY EASIER.
I now do Offroad, and the real challenge for you is to find a century off road ride. We have one in England called the South Downs Way, and I am in training for this in june of this year. It will be the 6th time I have done it, but I am hoping to break 12 hours riding time for this year. Not much chance, but I can always dream.
