Introductions - Ahoy from Ahwatukee Arizona

Just now re-finding the joy I once remembered in biking.

Gone are various other activities and sports (skiing etc) and I'm finding that a fifty-five year old body complete with a "bad back" & arthritis can adjust to the rigors of re-learning something thought gone.

Despite current triple digit temperatutes, Arizona is a great place to re-start.

Hello Pegasus, what bike are you out riding in that heat? I noticed that last evening, at 8.00 pm, that Phoenix was still 102* :eek: . Too hot for me!

First one back, to "tool around on", was a quasi-recumbent Giant Revive (massive rear shock protecting back after sugery(s)). Very slow bike, great neighborhood/corner store ride.

Have also aquired a Trek R200 recumbent and am in slow learn with it. Still not fully sold on it.

Today, I found a used Trek Navigator (26inch-plushmobile, heavy and fine for the moment) and it's up-right stance felt good enough to go ahead and buy from a neighbor, longest I've ridden and fastest so far. Fun to get around some on a canal path and even the stem suspension and front forks seemed to assist my back. I tried locking out the front forks and could not tell a difference on the road. Got caught in a rain burst, so I un-locked them in case I found a water filled pothole. This is a fun bike for me and will get used a lot while figuring out where i may head in regard to recumbent or faster upright bikes.

I'm considering a Fuji Sunfire 1.0 as well and were I to have bought new today, that would have been the choice. I like speed of the 700c's, it's aerodynamic shape of the tubing and the deore components, price on closeout etc. I also like the upright stance offered by that type of offering, Just from the test ride I know it is much faster than the Navigator and several other of the bikes tested.

On one of the other forums here, a man talked of having spinal issues like my own, and riding a road bike with great results and optimal body postures for him. I'd have never guessed.

So, I'm open. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks for the howdy and yes 102 at 8pm it was, I'd just tried some more training on the "bent".
Of course it's a dry heat [then too so is a micro-wave].

11pm here now and after the rain tonight it is a cool 85.
But, the great riding weather is just about to hit.

True, better weather is on the way! Still, I'd have a migraine every day if I tried to ride my bike there, even in the morning.

Guess that is why I live in Washington State, in Puget Sound.

Puget Sound area sounds like great riding, though on a given day I suppose I'd take 117 degrees over some of the hills. At least for now.
