I've been looking for an aluminum track frame as I have always been attracted to their beefy tubing so I came across this 93ish Cannondale Track on ebay. I dreamed of painting it matte black, puttin on all black components & then getting the Cannondale logo on theDT in a bright orange outline.
At the time it was bid up to $129.00 so I figured if it doesn't approach the price of a Pista Concept, I'll bid to win.
Needless to say I never bid because the bid jumped up to over $500 very quickly & I was shocked to see the final price! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290251523137&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019

There was a complete one a few months ago that hit $1800, it was pretty dumb. People are stupid, news at 11....

Especially considering the Capo is THE SAME BIKE as the old Cannondale Track, that is silly.

Angles are actually quite different.

Aha. Head tube is 1.5 degrees steeper on the old Track (58 cm, using the 1992 geo as reference) when compared to the 2008 Capo specs. I stand corrected, but I still think that price is quite silly.

Capo is not the same bike in the larger sizes especially. I had the chance to get a Capo complete for $500 already in black & passed because it's not the same frame.

you missed out then because the capo is a really great frame. I had both types and it's probably just as stiff as the original but not as fast handling. I had a Capo I got for $400, but it was a bit too large for me and had to sell:(

Yeah, maybe. But I'm leaning more towards a Pista Concept in 61cm. Mmmmm

they've been through the roof for a while now. still surprised it went for that much considering the "notable dent."

still, i guess people pay nearly that much for keirin frames all the time.

the two frames are nothing alike, the capo looks terrible and has horrible paint compared to the blue, green, or black of the pista, tubing was much nicer looking, no integrated headset.
The pista was an all around great aluminum frame and it's no surprise it's going for $1000+. Quite on the steep end (I've seen them go for $500 before) but if the paint is great and it's your size...

I'm kind of shocked by this price too. Even in less than perfect condition.
They weren't so desirable a year or two ago, were they? I remember them being much less expensive.
In any case, they are awesome, great looking bikes. I got one recently and I knew I was getting a good deal but didn't realize quite how good until now.

I sense someone with too much free credit to play with or a bad case of buyer's remorse. Nothing wrong with the C'dale, I'd like to have one myself, but that frame isn't worth it.

You can buy a capo for 800.
You'll probably spend 200-300 getting it fixed up with a seat, pedals, ect.
But why pay that much for a used older frame that probably isn't as light as the caad5 capo?

What about these are two different frames don't you guys understand? The Capo is a road bike with track ends. The Cannondale Track 2.8 is a track frame.

probably the rather misleading description of the frame from cannondale themselves:
"The Capo frame is Cannondale's original track frame from over a decade ago. "

and uh what do you not understand about how little difference there is?
if you want a good light alum frame why buy used?

there's actually a huge difference.

Jesus Christ. I sold a NOS '93 Cannondale Track for something like 800 dollars last year on Velospace. Should have waited, I guess.

Yea I got the full superbe cdale on velospace for $650. When I sold just the frame alone I got $665 on ebay. Kinda wish I waited...

Yeah you can definitley pwn noobs arguing about weight by providing pictures of the bike. Seriously.

The 92/93 Cannondale Track frame is beautiful, wish it wasn't a trend so I could actually get my hands on one... and build it up properly...
Just wanted to point out that Cannondale is actually referencing their Major Taylor track model from the later 90's when they talk about the Capo. You can clearly see the similarities with that model, the early 90's track model is obviously a different beast as shown here.

The criterium series, from what the track frame is based, was engineered to be as stiff as possible. Period. Someone developed a test to measure stiffness, basically by mounting the bike on its side and putting alot of weight to make the frame deflect. The Cannondale track frame defected the least compared with every other frame measured at that time. In other words, it rides like a truck, a very fast truck.
Besides the geometry, the headtube size, type of headset, tubing butting, tubing composition, dropout shape, paint, and fork material, they are the same bike :)

you're right, there is a difference. The older one is ugly as hell, but we're talking about price and weight here not geometry. and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Anyway, the point is you're paying more for an older frame that probably weighs more, has tons of miles on it. Maybe you think it looks better to satisfy some need to have a retro bike but I think it looks like it's been in a wreck and lots a few inches.
