My side company does branding, logos, and other business identity stuff, and this is SO right on the money when it comes to our BIS clients (BIS = Business Identity Services)

That is too funny and too true. We recently had to redo a display of our product for a major retailier who some people believe is the devil incarnate, and it went almost exactly like that. The original was better than the redesign, but whatver.

when the stuff you're selling is less than dubious, the maker of the product will sometimes use 'certified by XXX' 'seal of quality XXX' etc. to make their product sound legitimate, even if they don't get approved.

I'm talking about products like additives and attachments to your car that magically 'increase mileage' and is approved by XXX, YYY and ZZZ. however when you go to XXX, YYY and ZZZ pages, they not only don't have it listed they don't even mention it anywhere on their web page.
