I have a CycleSound speaker... it runs on 6AA batteries (= 9v). I want to buy or build a battery pack that will power this device for hours on end!

Hours on end sounds something like infinite. To design something you need to define your design criterion in quantifyable terms. What is the current demand of the amplifier being used at the volume you like to listen (amplifiers consume more current when played loud unless it's a totally class A amplifier design which is doubtful) and how many hours do you want the batteries to supply adequate power (and 'hours-on-end' is NOT quantifyable). Multiply the amperes times the hours and by magic you have the amp-hour rating needed to fill your design. Then find the lightest 9 volt battery that meets that A-H rating. Or maybe low weight wasn't one of your design objectives so you could ignore that. Then you need to come up with a way to mount the battery selected to your bike. That might require some additional design goals. Whew this design stuff is hard!
