Hello! I'm Chris from just outside Philadelphia.

I'm returning to bicycling (my favorite activity growing up) after a 10 year hiatus (before then, I biked from age 4 until 18), and will be buying a hybrid bicycle tonight (pending a good test ride at the bike shop). I am an avid runner and will begin bicycling again for my four mile commute for a cross train, but hope to eventually build to a duathalon or tri. As a kid, I hated to run, so adding back sports I loved seems to make sense now.

Hi Chris,

I used to be an avid runner - but I can barely remember that far back.

I don't mean to pry, but for a few years, my mom had been mis-diagnosed with celiac. I know something about what she had to go through, and she has never been a physically active person. If you are having to deal with that, and are maintaining an active lifestyle, my hat is off to you.

Welcome to Bike Forums,

Z

Thank you for your kind words. I was diagnosed with Celiac 2 years ago and it led to me changing my diet and beginning running. Best thing that ever happened to me actually, I'm down 45 lbs and in good enough shape I can bike again.

Chris

Hello Chris, what kind of bike are you pondering?

You are indeed armed with fortitude if you are willing to go the distance on duathlons and triathlons when you have celiac disease. More power to you, and good luck!

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

Wow! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I got the Trek 72 FX today, it's a fitness bike so not a racing bike, but I am bent slightly over, which will work well for commuting.

Hurrah! Let us know how it goes, and don't be shy about posting about your successes, and setbacks (if any) .
