Mountain Biking - noise with brand new Egg beater pedals?

I just switched over to Egg beeter smarty pedals on both bikes (2 bikes, 2 sets of pedals). On my road bike I am hearing a clicking or grinding noise (kinda a crackling noise) when pedaling under heavy pressure. Mostly when seated and going up a steep hill. On the flats I do not hear the noise at all.

Could this be the springs rubbing on the spindle of the pedal?

Brand new pedals, brand new shoes. The shoes are Specialized S-works BG MTB shoes with a carbon fiber sole.

I do not see to hear this sound on the other set of pedals that are on my commute bike.

I can't hear or feel anything when I turn the pedals by hand.

The bike was quiet with the look pedals, so I am pretty sure the source of the noise is the new pedals.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

in another forum someone said that eggbeater can rub against the bottom of the noise and if it is carbon fiber like mine, it can make a crackling noise.

So I checked the bottom of my shoes. Sure enough there are some good scuff marks wearing into the bottom about where the pedal would hit.

That same person also told me that Crank bro has a product called shoe shields

Has anyone here had a similar experience? Or tried the shoe shields?

Oh and I listened carefully this morning and it is happening on the other set of pedals on my commuter bike. My commute is pretty flat and generally I take it pretty easy, so never heard it on the commute until I went hard and was listening for it.

I think the picture of the shoes is the same FYI, but it couldnt hurt to try it, is it the spidle pushing against the tred?

I'm going to go ahead and say that the material of the shoe has nothing to do with the sound. There's a clearcoat over the carbon....

That said, your pedals may have some grit in them. Try cleaning them out completely.

it's the wings rubbing on your shoe. I have the same thing. Nothing to worry about
