Alright, so when I type casually, sometimes as I am typing, my point where I type gets warped anywhere from 2-15+ spaces backwards.

If I had to write:
"How was your day?"

It could turn out to be:

"How ur day?was yo"
And this is pissing me off.

I can't write college papers here soon and worry about a silly little error like this.
I am on Vista...if that makes a difference ;)

What can I do? Is this a problem? I don't understand why this is happening at a random # of spaces.

Are you doing this on a laptop? You could be unwittingly brushing the trackpad with the heel of your hand.

Or if you're using a wireless keyboard or one with programmable keys, the driver may be buggy, in which case search your manufacturer's website for the most updated driver.

Regardless, I'd recommend running a virus scan and a malware scan if you haven't recently on the odd chance that it's a buggy piece of spyware.

^^
track pad is the usual suspect.
on related issues, my blinking " | " doesn't always line up with where I'm typing, or sometimes disappears all together.

sometimes a misfiring mouse can cause this.

Yeah definitely check for malware. It could be that someone in logging your keystrokes using a buggy keylogger, or worse, they are in a Remote Desktop back door and watching what you are doing.

It could also just be the trackpad. I hate those damn things.

The Trackpad pointers are good. I usually have that happen to me when I'm typing on mine because it's really sensitive.

Does this happen on random occassions, or does it happen in intervals?

Does this happen in any application you're typing in, or only specific ones?

Trackpad + errant brush with thumb = all kinds of bizarre cursor movement.

Happens with anything: facebook, AIM, web address bar in browser. Maybe it is the trackpad. Is there a way to disable it? I have a wireless mouse I bought with the laptop.

Should be a way to disable the trackpad in control panel, or look for an icon by your clock. Some also have a button on the laptop itself to disable it.

There are a few ways.

1. If your computer has a button that disables the trackpad, use that.
2. If you have a red icon with a swirling white circle on the right hand corner of your Start menu, click that twice to get the Control Panel for the Trackpad. You can disable it there.
3. Go to Control Panel, select Mouse and disable it there.

Hope that helps!
