So I want to change my triple crank to a double crank. Why? Well I don't use the granny and because its been a long winter, and the need to buy stuff has hit me. Question is really, I have the 105 black grouppo. Should I stick with the black or get some silver cranks instead? I mean sure the black will match with the existing decor, however I've decided I like the silver stuff better. Eventually, I can see me getting the rest of it to all match up. The post is nothing more then a waste of time as I'm trying to avoid working this morning. really. I'm hoping to spark some huge debate on whether the black grouppo is blasphemy to road cycling as the silver is more traditional component look for roadies. ;)

Save weight by using unpainted components. :D

If you are going to change it, why not upgrade at the same time? Then you have to go silver.

Dito!!

Go for Ultegra or really blow some $$ and get the new 10 speed 04 Dura Ace!!
Personally I would just get the Ultegra and maybe some other goodies for the bike (or cloths).

Oh, and don't forget that when you change your crank you will also have to put a different front drailier on and MAY have to change to a new rear as well (depending on if you have shifting issues after the change over). The triple usually uses a long cage rear and the double a short cage (for faster and more precise shifting).

I agree, especially if you plan to upgrade in the future anyway. Plus it gives you a reason to buy more stuff... :D

actually, the 9 speed dura-ace is pretty cheap right now, like 170 for the double crank...check qbike.com

No brainer - upgrade to Ultegra BB and cranks. You won't regret it!

How about neither black nor silver? ;)

Hay, he has $$ to burn!! I was suggesting a FILL upgrade to Dura Ace 04 (or more reolistically 03 or Ultegra)
