After a season of suffering through races and training rides, the last thing I wanted to do was drag my arse outside and ride in 20 degree weather.

That's why god created mag trainers.

How about how nice it is where I was??? I was in Hawaii last week and it was 82 every day, but it got downright cold at night. The temperature dipped way, way down to 68 one time!

But, ah, back in the wonderful weather of Maryland, a high today of 45!

At this rate, you might be right! I'd chance a ride outside if it wasn't for the ice that is still around just waiting for me.

MacMan - does this make you feel any better? My son and I rode in The Illini Chill "A Red Flannel Affair" (hence the goofy red flannel pants over my tights!) this past Saturday in St. Joseph, Illinois. Low 20's both temp and wind, blowing and drifting snow, ice, busted butts. This was the 3rd annual, and is billed as "Illinois' Premier Winter Fun Bike Ride In The Country".

Here in Tennessee, Febuary is the LONGEST month!

I don't mind the cold, If I can have a little sunshine. All this endless rain be damned! I have only seen the sun twice, for a few mins., in the last few weeks!

I can hardley wait untill July and August. Then I will be wishing for a few clouds and rain. hehehe ;)

RunYun, I see that your mailbox looks a lot like my own from the relentless attack from the snow plows. I think next year I will build a cement pillar Just to keep the mailbox upright!

GoJohnnygo, I think you guys got it a little worse than us. I'd go riding, but a lot of the roads have barely had enough room for two cars let alone bikes.

HaHa, I live in Winnipeg, Canada and for the last few days it has been down to -58 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill during the day!! Luckilly it warmed up to a balmy -5 for our annual Ice bike Event! And for the snow... I have no pic but there are drifts 6 feet high along every driveway in the community! Now THIS, is a long winter!

Wow. The second picture brings back memories. What route did this take? I went to U of I, I'm assuming thats from the Urbana/Champaign campus, right?

And my grandmother, who still lives in the area wonders why I moved to Fort Lauderdale, where its currently in the high 70's and sunny.

damianb - we rode east out of St. Joseph then north and east to the small town of Royal, about 11 miles. Then turned around and rode back. Rode township roads, which were primarily oil and chip under the snow and ice.

I certainly do miss the Irish bars and pizza but I'm not so sure about biking along the lake shore. Admittedly, I haven't done that in over ten years and they've probably repaired a lot of the concrete. I remember tacoing the rear wheel of my MTB when I attempted to gap a large section of broken concrete near Oak Street Beach and mistimed the jump.

Not too many people ride along LSD anymore. They all cram onto the foot-/bike-path that the city has extended (they did a good job on this I thought). The path is nice but absolutely mental during the day. When I was still in the city I used to ride it at about 3:00 am - now that was a blast!

Jeeze, I just got back from a ride; it was about 65 degrees F when I started. Cool, but very dry--didn't even notice any sweating.

I would send you some of our weather, if you could send me some of yours--we need the rain and the fruit trees could use some coolness. . .

I just got the call from my LBS. My shoes and new ultegra pedals are in. Did I rush down there try them on, rush home put them on the bike and ride till the moon shines? No! 4-6 inches of snow tonite!!!!!!!

why bother. I'll pick them up tomorrow and well maby go sled riding or if it's enough snow I'll go back country skiing. I wanna ride though :(

I can't say that I have missed a day riding here in lovely Chicago. Yeah the snow stinks with the salt and everything, but that's a good excuse for a winter beater bike. No, wait that qualifies all of my bikes as winter bikes then. Why it almost felt downright balm out there today, I didn't need the full face mask.

The Lakefront path is still in ok shape right now, they keep plowing it when it snows so you can still ride it. But then again I always try to avoid that thing anyways, too crazy for me. I'll take on the car traffic anyday over the Lakefront path.

I've ridden in 47C before. It's not so bad if it isn't humid. Of course, when it is humid, anything above 25C becomes unbearable.

As far as 65F or whatever it was goes, I'd just about pull on the Goretex jacket for that! Even our "winters" don't get that "cold".

Having said all that, I still hold that 12 degrees C is the ideal temperature for human habitation -- and that as soon as I have some money and my CPA qualification behind me, I intend moving somewhere this happens more often.
