I often leave my wife little notes on our whiteboard for groceries. She loves it and I thought I would share the idea. This is the latest one...

"Absence is inevitable
And although they say it makes the heart grow fonder
I don't it need to love you more everyday

I leave messages along these lines pretty often and it seems to have a very positive effect. I'm going to start posting all of the ones I do in the future. Plagiarize if you'd like.

I used to do something like that with my former girlfriend of four years (though we still talk...I think she's my "you don't know it, but she's your permanent girlfriend" friend-girlfriend). Since we met in high school, she would leave notes in my locker. They were (almost) always joys to read. I would return it by leaving notes in hers. We eventually got each other combos and I started leaving bigger stuff in hers, and her stuff in mine. I even drew her stuff; she folded some interesting origami she picked up from her sister.

She is also very much a Christian, and she tried leaving me verses in index cards. I taped them to my wall (though they are down now...but still saved in a folder at my parent's house). When she moved away, we sometimes wrote letters (long ones!). She even wrote one in Braille because I tried to teach her Spanish (she had a quite serious vision impairment); it was pretty cool.

Just so you know, you'll NEVER see this mushy side of me from now on. Savor the moment :)

I've tried stuff like this before or popping surprises. It backfires every time -- she always suspects I screwed up something and am trying to butter her up. I can get away with just cooking a nice dinner since she's finally caught onto my philosophy is that any day is a good day to celebrate. The only thing that consistently earns brownie points is working hard on something when she's not around, me saying nothing, and her noticing that something really useful was done days or weeks later.

My RL experience is that this shmoozy stuffs wears off after the first decade or so together. I actually find it rather embarrassing to read the notes I wrote to her 20 years ago.

I just recycle franglais from old Pepe Le Pew cartoons.....

I've been married for 13 years. Notes no longer work unless I attach some money to it. Even then, it better be a good amount. Flowers still work tho, but the effects wear off in 24h tops.

The fitness I'm getting from cycling is having the best reactions so far, IMHO.

I draw goofy animal cartoons for my wife and leave them around where she'll find them. She giggles furiously.

Once we had guests over who found them by mistake, and they were like, "Uhhh, what's this?" Needless to say, I'm more careful now.

Mr Crassic, that's so cute... there is nothing like a hand-written letter, its like a lost art these days. I discovered it last summer when I was dating a guy who was away at basic training and the only thing we had were letters.. Its sad to hear you say that "you'll NEVER see that mushy side of me" again... suffice it to say when that relationship ended for me I packed up all the letters he wrote me and mailed them BACK to him out of bitterness... but I love being in love, and can't wait until I can find a connection like that with someone again.

I work with archives, and just the penmanship alone is so cool to see.

I woo my wife with my imagination, Im always making something from nothing, either physical or in my mind, I dont plan these things out, they just happen :) and she loves the fact that they happen!
