Guess again, Carbon Fiber Composite :p (Frameset as pictured weighs a feathery 1780 grams, and the steer tube isn't even cut down yet).

I thought the same thing too but that wouldn't be right.

Seriously, though, sweet frame. Are you building it up yourself or having the shop do it for you?

That would be Rock n' Road Cyclery in Anaheim Hills. The manager there is Ed Pineda, he's taking really good care of me.

Radium, this bike willnot hit the road for another month as I have to wait for my next paycheck to buy the group kit (Ultegra SL for now, Dura-Ace 7900 by the end of January). You'll see me riding aroud East Lake Village or on the SART.

If this saves you any money, my uncle just bought a bike with virtually no budget (he's a pretty successful lawyer) and even he decided on Ultegra SL over Dura Ace. He also tested frames by Serotta, Moots, Kutoa, etc. and ended up liking the Scott CR1 frame the best. Diminishing returns gets pretty darn small when you get up there.

Oh, and you know that your frame implies that you're a world champion, right? :D

If I REALLY want to do this frame justice, I'd replicate Bettini's exact setup from Tour de France. It would have a Campagnolo Record group kit and roval fusee carbon wheels. But I'm not a campy fan and I don't think those wheels could support my clydely stature.

My first group will be the Ultegra SL, if they turn out to be good then maybe I'll forego the dura-ace upgrade.

And what are you implying by saying the frame implies I'm a world champion?! I AM a world champion, this frame will imbue me with the powers of Paolo Bettini (aka Il Grillo).

Oh and what do you guys think the chances are of me having Bettini sign the frame at the next Tour de California?

(Like with fingers, not the frame.)

I heard Bettini may decide to retire at the end of the season, so he might not be at the next Tour of California.

But... but....... Shimano is just as good and about 2/3 the price.

Campagnolo is just like a Ferarri... it isn't any better than the rest, but if you can afford one, why not?

Wow! That's a slick looking frame. If you don't mind me asking, how much does something like that run, I'm assuming there's no room to bargain on that(seeing how I'm reading that it's a rare color).

Frameset alone set me back $2899 + Tax ($3124.74)

Not a campy fan? Mind if I ask why you don't like them?

Shimano is not as good as Campy (IM not so HO), just like Ferrari is better than a car made by DaeWoo... and for only 33% more, wouldn't you rather be seen in a Ferrari?

nice frame!

I raced campy chorus/record and DA/Ultegra. I prefer DA mainly for the lighter shift action and shape of levers.
Campy takes a bit more to shift, esp from the drops and the reach is a bit much to the brakes- and I don't have small hands.

However, spin a Campy bottom bracket- smmmoooothhh! like butta! Shimano feels like it's stuck on its seals or something. That is the only quantifiable difference besides the shift feel for me.

I am kinda interested in SRAM since the levers are so clean and shape is nice. I don't know if it's an upgrade from Ultegra SL or DA though.

Comparing Shimano to a Daewoo? That's a bit dramatic, don't you think? I mean I know Campagnolo is nice, but I dont think Shimano is that far behind in terms of quality.

I agree with you, I test rode a bike with Campagnolo brifters and I could barely reach the levers from the drop bar. Also the Campys do require a bit of umph in order to get the shifter to actuate.

Heh, I have to wait for my next paycheck to buy the gruppo and some other misc. items for the build. T-minus 28 days and counting.
