Cyclocross - Cyclocross K2 Enemy, any owners here?

My local REI store has a XL K2 Enemy Cyclocross bike on close out. The frame is marginally large, so I need to evaluate the fit, but the price is right, $750. The store might negotiate further now that the season is ending and the floor space will be changed over.

Is the bike a good buy? I'm thinking the parts are worth more than the asking price, it has a carbonfiber fork.

Does anyone have an opinion based on the specs?

750 for an aluminum frame and 105 components is pretty good. The only bike with similar specs at that price point that comes to mind is a fuji cross comp.

I have the 07, which I also got on closeout at REI. Mine was 800 with Tiagra though...oh wel.

It's a good enough bike, especially for the price the components are good. The gearing isn't great for cross, but would be good if you are commuting or road riding a lot. I just converted mine to a single chainring anyways. I need to take some updated pictures of it with the BBG bash guard and short cage Ultegra rear derailleur.

The handling is pretty slack for a cross bike. Talish headtube too, at least on the 07. I like the stable handling, but you may prefer something a bit quicker. Also, my 07 doesn't have seatstay rack mounts, but it does have fork and rear dropout fender mounts. Again, not a big deal to me, but if you're using it mainly as a commuter or something it may not be what you're looking for.

Also lookign at the specs it loks like they upgraded the drivetrain but kind of skimped in some other areas as compared to previous years. But it's still a prety fantastic deal. 750 is usually a mix of Sora and Tiagra.

Yes, noticed the frame specs scream "Touring", not Cross. The BB drop is 70mm, not the 66mm found on the Soma Double Cross or Surly Cross Check. But I'm be using it as a commuter, so this is a plus for me.

How do you like the ride? Is it stiff & harsh or more plush?

Also, I might sell the wheelset, tires & cassette immediately and use something I already own. My guess is that the Alex A-Class ALX-220, Vittoria Cross XG Pro, (700 x 32c) & 10 speed cassette are worth $250. Am I guessing too high?

750 is a fair price just for the build. since you'll primarily be commuting with it, it sounds perfect. ride it awhile; you could always swap the frame if you don't like it...

Replacement frames are easy to find both new and used. I personally condone picking up the best parts you can. Plus, it sounds like it is perfect for your needs right now.

Yeah, but building up from the parts alone is always more expensive. It's a good deal though. If you want one, try to order it.

Ride: Definately on the stable side, and pretty comfy for aluminum, I think, but I'm not super sensitive to that. And they did change the rear triangle for 09, so who knows.

Thanks for the info. I was not able to find the bike in my size. A 2007 medium size is available at one of the REI stores in Atlanta.

I was able to find a new 2007 Felt F1X for $810. I purchased it on Saturday.
