BMX - Be Honest: What's the most air you ever got in the dirt?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Be honest. ;)

When I was a kid, there was an air contest, and the prize was a substantial amount of money. It was all local, non-sanctioned. Just a huge dirt jump in a canyon right by the beach.

There were guys so pumped up to win the money that they were grabbing and finding any bike they could use.

It started, of course, with the local bmx amateurs, but it got to the point where there was this hippy kid, barefoot, on a ten speed launching huge airs. It was awe inspiring AND comedic at the same time. He'd land these things with his arse in the seat and feet out to the sides, just slamming. He was doing all kinds of crazy stuff. He destroyed the bike.

I don't remember who won, but that was some serious air.

So, what about you?

It depends on the jump.

Probably a 3 ft high jump and gotten 5 or 6 ft of air.
I don't dirt jump a lot.

However high I go on the big double in the 4-pack. At my local track.

"4-pack," "double," and "local track" don't go together too well.

Once I tried to jump a gully in a canyon to show off for my brother's girlfriend.

The handlebars and my stomach became one when I noseplanted on the other side.

Not only did I knock the wind out of me, but I got to do a faceplant as well.

Good times.

A gully in a canyon? In reality, I'm guessing that the gully was a rill, and the canyon was, in fact, a gully.

Awww, come on. Why not?

Well, it might have something to do with "4-pack" and "double" implying that there's an actual gap, not a glorified roller.

Ohh, ok. Gotcha. But yes, I guess you could call it a glorified roller. 2 glorified rollers with dirt in between them.

You can roll over it. Therefore, it's a glorified roller. If you want to get technical, you could call it "a pair of really tall whoops that are set way too far apart."

Ok, Beerman. I got the point. So however high I go on "a pair of really tall whoops that are set way too far apart." At my local track.
