I hope the cyclist pulls through.
In east San Jose you can easily substitute "driver" or "pedestrian" for cyclist.

I'd like to see some more information before I label this guy a "cyclist". Most people I know, aren't the type to be riding around east side at 830 at night.

most cyclists wouldn't be riding around east side at night... don't want to make assumptions but basing off of the neighborhood, it probably was not a random drive-by cyclist hater.

Sinister though it may seem, I hope the shooter knew the victim just because I don't want it to have been a random act. I have wanted to do some riding on the main roads of the East Side.. I've ridden a loop including Capitol, Tully and White without incident. Hopefully again as well.

98% of what happens on the East Side is intentional. The shooters probably knew the victim which is why the story got almost 3 paragraphs. If this was an innocent or an unexplained, it would have been splashed all over the the news because in that kind of case the police would need some help with the "who dun it".
