Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone have a turn by turn route from the Amtrak station in San Juan Capistrano to the Amtrak station in Solana Beach? I have tried MapMyRide.com but one of the turns is a dead end.

You don't need a turn by turn for something this easy. Just get on PCH and go south. No worries!

Or you could just ride on the tracks. :D

Camino Capistrano to PCH south. When you get to Christianito(sp) get on the trail that was OLD PCH.
Comes back into Basilone and enter San Onofre Park. Next is Los Pulgas. Most times with ID you can go onto the base or you have a choice of going on the freeway to Oceanside.
From there you are on your own.
From Oceanside Harbor south through downtown Oceanside, I strongly favor Pacific St. or Tremont St. over Coast Highway 101. At Vista Way you will need to get back on the Coast Highway, which goes under the name "Carlsbad Bl." through Carlsbad. You can simply stay on it into Solana Beach, although my club likes to use Second St. through downtown Encinitas -- R on D St., L on Second St., L on K St., and R. on 101. There is a berm-separated MUP thorugh Cardiff-by-the-Sea, but most serious cyclists strongly prefer the road.
For the final approach into the Solana Beach Amtrak station, you may want to cross Highway 101 at the Solana Vista Dr. traffic signal, go over the tracks on the new bike/ped bridge, and then right on Cedros St. to the station. I find this quite a bit quicker than waiting out the long light at Lomas Santa Fe, and easier than trying to fight my way into the left turn pocket there.
If you plan to come through on a weekend or late on a weekday afternoon, let me know, and I can try to meet you.
