Fifty Plus (50+) - What to do with obsolete cylinder key U lock?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I bought a new U-lock to replace my old bic-pen-compatible, cylindrical key U-lock.
Before I toss the old one in the landfill, thought I'd see if anyone had come up with a good application for it. I guess using it as a secondary lock when weight isn't an issue might work.

Can you at least recycle it as scrap metal?

You could lock someone else's bike to a rack.

Find an old junker bike, use the lock to lock it to a post by the curb, and put a "For Steal" sign on it.

Take it to work, lock it on the bike rack.
Now you can commute to work without carrying a lock.

Perhaps some less fortunate commuter around you needs a lock upgrade.....?
Give it to that person and you'll both feel better.
Give it to a bike messenger that needs a side mirror removal tool.:innocent:
