Hey,
I've been watching the Olympic track racing. One of the things that struck me was that everybody seems to be racing on Mavic wheels. Is there some sponsorship gig going on? Or have I missed all the Corimas etc...?

Mavic sponsors just about every National team at the competition.
The iO and Comete are some freaking awesome wheels, even if they do cost $5000 a pair.

Look again and you should see HED and Campy in there too.

Corima as well.
All the track cycling that I have watched has been a continuous Mavic advertisement. The sponsorship costs were a good investment on Mavic's part.

It's too bad that his 12 inch long handlebar wasn't legal for competition. :(

I spotted some Campagnolo and Corima wheels in the womens points race today. First time I saw any though... I heard the Italian federation was still using Shamal track wheels up til recently.

I noticed one rider with a top tube pad and knickers. Man he looked cool.

That combo is pretty much the gold standard for indoors.

I've seen a few Campy discs in the mix, but mostly Mavic. In the women's sprint, I noticed one rider with a deep section spoked wheel and an Araya disc, but, to be fair, she got crushed by Victoria Pendleton on a Mavic iO/Comete wheelset. I'm not sure it was the wheels, though...

The Dutch team were using some funky looking wheels...

The British Team were not using Mavic discs. They were custom developed discs exclusive to the British Team - with Mavic stickers on!
(The easy way to spot the difference is to look at the hubs, the Mavic discs have a silver aluminium hub, the GB discs have a carbon hub)

If you've ever ridden a set of Mavic wheels with good tires on them youd understand why most of the racers have them. Not the lightest things around but very still and extremly fast.
ZEN wheels for some of the New Zealand team built in nz,some were branded mavic.aparently very fast/stiff
