I had planned to do the Cat 4 and then the Masters 3/4/5 back to back. Never got the chance though, after crashing on the last lap of the Cat 4.

I was running a little late this morning so I didn't have a good chance to warm up before the race, so I thought I would use the Cat 4 race as a warm-up. But after 20 laps or so, I was feeling pretty good and I was keeping good position. In fact, with 3 to go, I was perfectly placed, sitting in second position. Then I grabbed a little too much brake in one corner and I could feel that it didn't release entirely. I'd been having trouble with some crud in the rear brake housing and it caught up with me then. I reached back to open the caliper and got it to stop rubbing, but by then I'd lost 10 or 15 positions.

With one to go, I was still about 10th and was trying to make up spots on the outside. Coming out of turn 3 I went wide, trying to get by on the gutter (this was my secret weapon at Davis and Folsom). Alas, my luck ran out when the guy in front of me overcooked the turn and took me into the curb. I went ass over teakettle and into a fence.

I'm a little dinged up--bruised back and swollen ankle--but thankful that I'm in one piece and my bike appears to have survived (although there's a gash in the seatstay that I'm going to ask the head wrench at our shop to look at tomorrow).

I hope the rest of BF racers managed to finish their races upright!

Dude that was you! I saw someone going over handle bars on that turn, and another rider plowing in the hay bails. Glad you are ok. Stayed up right, but another pack finish. :(

Yeah, thanks! I figured someone on BF would have remembered that one. I imagine it was pretty spectacular.
