to be clear, the answer is "no they don't count", because technically, your question was whether anybody knew.

Please note they changed the cross structure this year. And it's only 5 races to go from a 4-->3. Your road cat still counts, however. And then there's the age thing.

I know a few folks who used cross starts as mass starts for the 5-->4 upgrade. They had 6 or 7 road mass starts and submitted the balance based on cross starts. This was about 5 yrs. ago, might not be considered any longer since there is a categorized system for CX now, whereas before it was A, B and C.
