Winning is sweeter with yellow roses. Hermes surprised me last week with a bouquet of beautiful yellow roses and told me how proud he was of me for my performance in the Esparto time trial last Sunday. See http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=453009 I am so lucky to have such a great husband, soul mate, best friend (and yes, bike slave).

Ross bikes were briefly in the news recently....remember the Times Square bombing?

Very good thing that Velodiva isn't racing a Blue Ross....

It's satisfying to win, but to be recognized in a special way is even nicer.
Congrats on your victory.
Beautiful roses, and what a very thoughtful gift. And, they match your outfit. :)

Hey, if you are going to make nicey, nicey complimentary comments, then go to the correctly named thread. We have taken over this one for our own purposes.

Returning this thread to its hijacked Ross theme ...
Apparently the name lives on, in the form of "stepper" bikes that are branded as Randy Ross products. I'm hoping this is "Randy" as in Rand bikes, that bought out Ross some years ago. And not as in the bikes being randy.

Who's up for riding this one?

Come to think of it, I think the old rusty bike sitting in our side yard is a Ross.:o A black one. We have a fixer-upper right under our nose! So, what's the joke about Ross bikes, anyway?

And in the "Where are they now?"
"Nowadays, Mr. Ross, 86, lives in Florida and earns a living as an expert witness, testifying in lawsuits involving bicycles."

I would *love* to sue my bicycle.

Ross made millions of mundane bikes over a period of about 40 years. At one time they were one of the most popular bikes in the USA. You can find a lot of them at yard sales and selling for $25 or so on Craigslist.
This is why when the Times Square bomber was said to be riding a Ross bike, that it wasn't considered to be a real valuable clue.
I've seen reference to them making an attempt or two at a more upscale bike, using better parts. I think those are at least modest collectibles.

Of course I expect many, many 50+'ers had good times on Ross bikes while growing up.
I wish I had had one. That would have been an upgrade from my second-hand low-end dept store bikes that I rode.

wow! That was quite a thread. And history lesson. Thanks for posting it.
I noticed several 50+'ers had participated in it, including Diablo-Scott, Little Darwin, and Solveg.
