I'd go with a Surly based on the durability, but a KHS is good for the cost. Nothing hi-end though. But that can be a ebenfit for that one time you are practicing skidding and the cab travelling perpendicular decides not to stop and boots you and your bike 30ft in the air. KHS are cheaper to replace, and are a great way to get into the track/fix fix/track thingee.
Just kidding on the "cab vs. you" scenario...it would be more like 20ft. 30Ft is a total exaggeration

the KHS flite100 is a pretty decent bike for the money. it's got a reynolds 531 frame, and sugino75 track cranks, which is pretty nice to have around. however wheels are kinda shoddy. they'll last for a while, the only problem i've ever heard of anyone having with them is the threading for the lockring and cog is kinda cheesy, just ask "stinkyonions," of forum fame.

the frame is great though it's got nice, tight track geometry, and it looks pretty swell. and the rest of the components on it are pretty decent.

my poor rear wheel. yea, as onetinsloth said, i trashed my rear wheel from skidding and what not. i think the rear cog just became loose over time and i didn't notice until it finally fell off and stripped my hub. just waiting for the phil's to get here now.

if youre on a budget you can get the specialized langster complete for the price of a surly frame.
later on you should upgrade to a nice italian fixie.

I would go with the Pista myself

take a close look at the welds on the langster and then look at the welds on the khs...their is a significant difference in craftsmanship. the langster's craftsmanship is shotty. now look at the geometry of a the khs and the langster...the langster's geometry resembles a mtb which will result in a slower ride. of course surly's are the standard and so are the bianchi's...but check out gunnar, soma or believe it or not, fuji.

id say khs. the surly is more of a streettrack bike really...its great for fenders or fat tires, but on the track, you dont need that.
