If anyone has seen this MASH video: www.mashsf.com

Anyway, in the accompanying booklet (40$ dvd ugh!) this fella named Jonathan, whose part I found to be most inspiring, speaks of his favorite SF Ride... he says his favorite route is the City Loop (25mi), which he tries to do every other night. I don't know if this is a famous route or what. I'm from the opposite side of the country but I'm curious how this route is. SAN FRANCISCO CITY LOOP? Anybody know where this is?

I had this posted in the pacific northwest thread... Mistake.

I think you've inspired me to finally compile some of my favorite city rides. I'll post in my blog when I get it done this week. I have a 32 mile loop that I think I've found after almost 30 years of riding to be one of the best fitness rides combined with scenery and thrills. and some other shorter loops. I'll try to do them in bikely when I get a chance.

There is an excellent "San Francisco Bike Map" that you can buy for a few dollars in any city bike shop. I think you can also mail order it from sfbike.org. The front of the map shows all the official bike routes in the city including the bike route numbers that you see on street signs and also contour lines and color coded hill gradients.

On the back of the map are 3 recommended "scenic bike routes" (15 miles, 25 miles, and 30 miles). All the routes start out along the Embarcadero and through Fisherman's Wharf to Fort Point. The short route then returns the same way. The medium route loops around the Legion of Honor and GG Park, then returns along the coast. The long route goes all the way down to Lake Merced, then returns via the southern neighborhoods. I've done all these routes (more or less). All are kind of fun. The first 2 routes are more touristy. The long route is the most interesting, since you see more of what the city has to offer.
