I am looking for a recommendation for a good sports medicine practice in Denver. I hurt my leg where the calf meets the knee. Had an MRI done on the knee and all looks good. But the calf still hurts big time when I put pressure on it. I am look for a doc who will treat me like a serious athlete. My doc is good but knees are his thing he works mostly with hockey, football and basketball players. I know Denver must have some of the best docs in country, I just need find them. Thanks in advance.

Think Peoples Republic, not Denver, Boulder Sports Medicine

The guy I'm working on for recurring calf strains is also a big time triathlete, their big name, Dr. Pruitt, writes books about cycling and injuries.

I have been very impressed with all my treatment at University of Colorado Hospital and University Physicians. They have now moved out to Aurora. I can't comment on a specific knee doctor, but I am working with the hand clinic on an injury and they are very good.

I think I also have a calf strain. The doc put me on 7.5 mg of Meloxicam a day ( now on day 56) and soft pedaling only. I am now icing 2x a day and massaging daily. Can you think of anything else I should do? I know I won't be able to get in to see a doctor for a few weeks.

The first time I pulled it, it was off completly for two weeks followed by a month of three times a week icing and heat, electrical stimulation, massage and light stretching, still no bike or run. By the end of the six weeks I was able to bike fine but running started at ground zero for me. That was three years ago, I just started having problems again but know the signs enough to stop before it gets too bad.

day 56 doesn't sound good.

no idea what meloxicam is, but after a week of ibuprofen, I was off drugs.

if this was a biking injury I would again suggest Dr. Pruitt, its what he does. Its the only rehab center I have ever seen with a bike fit studio and the only doc I've met who writes for velo-press. Mine was a running injury but its nice to have a doc who understands my tri workout schedule.

Meloxicam is a heavy duty anti-inflammatory, I do not like taking it. Very hard on the stomach.
