More or less, yeah, the
fluted crank arms and sheriff star
are cool but the ring looks like
cheapo stamped metal and the
weird attachment to the crank arm
says "early failure." One of those
things that just doesn't quite look
rugged enough to ride down to the
corner store for chocolate milk.

Those look like nice cranks.

I think the ones I posted are the real deal. They are NOS & probably from the seventies. SR made some quality stuff.

Maybe but the lack of a spider with five separate points of attachment
to the chainring looks kinda sketchy to me. Maybe those cranks would propel
a kid down the street. I suspect if you had to torque on them to skid, skip or
blow your nose they would snap right quick. Just sayin.

edit: I'm not saying there aren't other good designs out there but
the thin chainring looks sketch.

What do you mean by "the real deal." The design of the chainring is nothing special and calling it "sheriff star" is quite a stretch. They are **** and shouldn't be used unless you're broke and they're free.

while i've never recommended anyone get the ****ty pauls mentioned above you're the prefect candidate and they are at least better than the ones you posted.

I'm just curious--what's wrong with the Paul cranks other than an unreasonable price for a crank that
requires a chain ring that is not widely available? I really like the design but I can't justify something that isn't standard 144 bcd or 130 bcd
and can be purchased widely.

cnced, square taper, splined interface, inefficient arm shape... Like most everything paul makes these days there are absolute crap by pretty much any measure.

ah dutret I love to hate ya and agree with ya but I do due get some old campy pista cranks and stfu

Yes, as to the quality/history of SR cranks. The fact that they are stamped S Star made me think sheriff star. I was hoping maybe someone might say these were the shiznit so I could hit the BIN, but I think my cranks are fixed.

They're not S Star, they're actually Silstar. My friend has those same ones.

And they're not very top-notch quality by any means.
