Sounds good. Depending on geometry. You can't base it on size as fr bikes fit VERY different the xc bikes. It sounds ok though.

I'm 5'9- I fit 17 inch well, I am riding 16 frame now. The seat tube is stand over- not a factor I think.
-the top tube is the yes or no for frame fit.
Mines 20 inch. I wanted this frame-so I'll deal with the minus 1-1 1\2 inch loss on the top tube.
To compensate with the smaller frame, I have riser bars, a long stem\headset, My seat is higher than norm for a mtb- (though leveled with riser bars) and run 170 cranks (I should be 160-165) Sounds messed up?
It rocks.
Having a frame slightly smaller is I find, better than large-(mtb) Kinda like bmx.
I like the control I have over a 16 inch. With road bikes I would say no- fits or not. mtb are different in that there are several ways to set up and ride them.
p.s what's a fr bike? full rigid, French road, free range?

FR is FS, but a FS is not necessarily FR?

FR = Freeride, this can include HT (Hardtails) or FS (Full suspension).
XC = Cross Country and can be a HT, FS, Rigid (no suspension) or a SS (single speed). You can also have a SS/HT or a SS/Full Rigid or even a SS/FS.
DH = Downhill and this is generally full suspension, but there are a few brave souls who race DH on a HT.
4x = Four Cross or MountainCross and is basically a 4-man downhill BMX track with mountain bikes. Either HT or FS
Slalom is a one on one race with two seperate courses and two runs alternating sides with the lowest combined time advancing.
DJ = Dirt Jump. These are generally BMX bikes on steroids, most commonly HT, but many riders use FS. These bikes are beefier, and strong.
Confused yet?

You laugh, check out the Kona A! http://www.konaworld.com/kw_index.cfm If I had the money to spend, I'd add one to my stable.
Also as far as SS/XC, a lot of 12 Hour and 24 Hour races are won by teams with SS. I think the World Champs are Team Jericho and they all rode SS. I can't remember specifics, but it was in one of my mags. Dirt Rag I think?!

I'd add any Kona to my stable. they are all good, but then I only have a small garage, and the bank managers round my neck now. I'm 5'6" inside leg of 29, and I ride a 15 1/2" Bianchi. Short, low frame, Long Seat post. I also ride a Cannondale Tandem that is a Large/ medium. Can't touch the ground as stoker from the saddle, but Then once I'm moving I dont stop till I fall off. The only thing I would be worried about is if you can get a strong enough seat post with enough still retained in the post to make it safe
