First, thanks for all the great info I've gleaned from the threads here. If there is any problem it's really that there is so much good information it makes it a bit hard to make a purchase. ("That setup sounds good." "But so does that one". "And that other thread talked about XYZ." "Maybe if I wait two weeks there will something new and even better!")
And on to the question....
I currently just have a "be seen" head and tail light to get me home safely if my ride goes a bit past sunset. But thanks to a new dedicated road bike, my CX bike is getting turned into a commuter for which I want a brighter light setup. I've also been doing a lot more mountain biking and the group I ride with will continue its weekly after-work ride regardless of when the sun sets and I want to be able to join in that fun.
Based on the many threads I've read, I'm leaning towards one of the flashlight-based lights (e.g. fenix) or the Dinotte. One thing I haven't been able to figure out from threads is how easy it would be to mount/dismount/remount any of the lights so I could switch them from my CX to mountain bike. If I need to get an extra mount for each bike that would be fine but I'd rather not buy two compete lighting systems. (I'll also get a helmet mounted light but that obviously won't be a problem.)
Other needs/wants: Commute is about 10 miles each way with about four miles being neighborhood streets with no streetlights. I'd occasionally add some extra miles for training so I'd want a good burn time of at least one hour. Mountain rides are in the woods and might be up to two hours but more likely around one hour. I'd prefer rechargeables (either dedicated or AA/AAA type). As with most people, I'd like to spend as little as possible but will gladly spend the extra money to get the safe and proper lights.
Thanks in advance.
