A peleton? When the hell was this allowed and why? How are they allowed to draft? This makes no sense.

They did change the rule a Olympics or two ago,because it was to hard to enforce who drafted when,who was just pass,etc on an Olympic sized (fan friendly) course...so they just let it play out on it's own

Based on the amount of people going from swimming to the bikes in transition 1, it is difficult if not impossible to enforce a no-drafting rule.
It also makes the race more interesting as tactics played out on the bike also determines the performance on the run, some might say that's a negative because it doesn't rely solely on endurance, a guy can just draft completely in the lead group and conserve his energy until the run, that doesn't happen very often and nobody is going to let you get a free ride, especially if you are a medal contender.
As for the race, I watched it last night, what a finish.
