Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Help me get handlebars for my Trek Soho S?

Recently I found an almost-new Trek Soho S single-speed for cheapish. I ride it freewheel. It came with Bontrager Crowbar Race Lite risers, which I want to switch out, since I feel they are wider than I need and I can't get low on them. Right now I am leaning towards a bullhorn handlebar, and using my current stem, and both of my current inline levers on the flats.

The trouble is, Trekbikes.com isn't very informative as to the parts specs. As far as I can tell, the current handlebar is 31.8" clamp, but the stem is the capped type (though it only has 2 screws) and there seems to be some space under the cap, so maybe it will take a smaller diameter bar as well?

I also can't figure out what model the levers are ("Tektro alloy" says the website) and what kind of bars they'll fit on. I know they fit the current one...

So basically, I'm looking for a bullhorn that is:

1. cheap, like the bike itself
2. light, like the bike itself
3. flat, more or less
4. sized to fit my current stem and levers
5. black, like the bike itself. OK, any color is fine actually as long as the bars are good, I'll just tape it all up in black.

Of course, if anyone has any ideas why I SHOULDN'T use this configuration ("put the brakes on the ends" "get bar end levers" "get drops and road levers"...) please tell me as well. This is the first bike I've owned for daily transportation as well as the first one I've "hacked" into, so I'm open to any and all ideas.

as an fyi, i put a 60mm stem and moustache bars on my soho s. it's built up as a grocery bike/workhorse, and i have to say it does nicely.
bullhorns are, in my humble opinion, worthless on this bike as it really isn't something that lends itself to sprinting or (i'd imagine) out of saddle climbing.

ps: i'm almost 100% certain that the bars are 26.0... i swapped the stem/bars pretty early so i may be wrong, but i'll verify this when i get home.
for what it's worth, "this appears to be" isn't very convincing. people that work for trek "appear to be" complete morons who know nothing about bicycles, or at least they "appeared" that way last time i had to deal with their cubicle working asses.

when I bought my Trek Soho S, my LBS cut down the bars for me. that improved the handlebar situation a lot. you should at least give that a try before spending any money on new bars.

why not? better than putting 26.0 in a 25.4 stem and creasing the bar, or having it fail and eating pavement.

Cuz you can eyeball it. It comes with a flat bar. It's oversized or it's mountain diameter. No way it's 26.0.

Riser, whatever.

BTW, your flat bar levers are A) not gonna fit over bullhorns. B) gonna look stupid if you try to kludge it.

easy for you to say, but risers come in 25.4, 26.0, and 31.6... so how do you know? magic?

bullhorns don't really let you get low they only let you get flatter.

i'd suggest road bars. take your bike into a shop and they can tell you what size it is. road bars come in all clamp diameters.

i checked mine, it's 25.4.

get some nitto bullhorns or moustache bars (i'm pretty sure nitto makes everything in 25.4, so you'll have options like whoa.

I can't remember when the last time I seen a 26mm bar on a mass produced bike. 99.99% of the time it will be either 25.4 or 31.8. There probably is not a 26mm bar equipped bike in Trek's entire line up.

Bianchi has some.
My San Jose has them.

Okay, so it's not the most complete list, but it is A list of riser bars, with clamp diameters. In my cursory inspection, not one is 26.

though it's worth mentioning, that is a completely different bike. with the exception of the chainring guard, frame and maybe the wheels (too far to tell for sure), everything is different.
