New to forum,my name is Dan I'm 40 and started riding this year late spring. The last time I rode was in my late 20's.I did my first century a few weeks ago(Melon Metric) in 5hrs39min av.speed 17.6,just a few rolling hills.Has anyone done Bike Psycho's century? It looks like it goes out to starved rock and I imagine it's probably a little more hilly than I'm use to riding.I live in Villa Park so not to many hills where I ride, but I do look forward to the challenge.

I've done that ride the last five years or so. It's a great ride. The stops are well supported. There are some rolling hills coming back from Marsailles. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

I did this ride last year, it was great. Did 130 miles:eek: Was supposed to do the 120 mile option, but someone in our group made a wrong turn:mad:

This year I hope to not make that same mistake... and will opt either for the 120 or 100.

It's a great ride... but I don't remember any hills.

i have done it the last two years. last year the route was a bit different due to some flodding issues. the year previous i believe was more of their normal route. there are some nice little rollers, but nothing too sever. it is a very well done ride. nice route, well marked, and decent rest stops. i recommend it to anyone in the area. later.

It is my favorite ride! I like the route, the staff, the rest areas are awesomely supported, and the hills near Seneca are always a challenge. You will love it

I am counting on you sharing the workload with me.

It seems most of our group has turned to racing instead. :(

The more the merrier.

Assuming it is not too hilly or windy, I hope to average around 20 mph.

Rollout around 7am.

^^^^ i am like 75% for sure, but its a big weekend around my house. i will want to roll out before 7:30. JT1 is a beast and i can hold my own. JT1 has dreams of 20 mph AVERAGE, but we will need a couple more hourses to pull that off over 100 mile route. i can only do so much :). later.

My mom and I will be there at a much slower pace but we may see you guys or the others at a rest stop or zooming by. Weather looks to be good.

I did 70 mile route ( which is actually only 65) and let me tell you - I like this ride a lot! I expected typical Illinois farmland and was pleasantly surprised by nice scenery, esp along the river. Ride is relatively flat ( at least 70 mile portion of it) and not confusing. I was a little bit worried that they did not provide cue sheets - only maps - never looked at it! ;-).
NIce weather helped too!
I am doing century next year there for sure!

" I like this ride a lot!"

+1

My mom and I did the 70 (which is 65) and loved it. Great rest stops. (We heard at the first one that all of the temporary paint they had used to mark the course had been washed off in a late afternoon thunderstorm yesterday. Hence the early route confusion)

Such a gorgeous day, nice course and good support all the way around. Saw numerous SAG vehicles all day.

Saw JT1 before the start.

We averaged 15.5 mph. By mile 30 my legs were toast reminding me that it had only been a week since my DLD climbing adventure. 65 miles was plenty for me today.

Will be back next year.

I had a great time out there today as well. I finished the 124 loop solo in 6:23. That wasn't too bad considering I didn't have any help with the wind out there!

Had a lot of fun,I met White Sox in the registration line (she was standing behind me,small world pretty cool)
I rode with White Sox,her boyfriend, and a two of their other friends until the first rest stop. When we left I hooked up with this large pace line ,we were haul in 25mph+.After we left the third rest I could only hang with those guys for a little while the cross winds where killing me.I rode the rest of the ride solo in the wind and hills(it was very hilly for what I'm use to riding).I finished in 5:56 average speed 17.2 mph 102 miles. This ride was a lot harder than the Melon Metric I did last month due to the hills.

I enjoyed the ride also, the day didn't go as planned but I still had a great time.

I set my alarm for 4:15 PM instead of 4:15 AM. :( So my day started out rushing, and I arrived later than planned. Even with the long registration line I was ready to roll out by 7:10. I waited at the start for about 10 minutes or so to see if there was still anyone from the forum who wanted to ride together. I saw Smoking Miles while waiting, and had the pleasure of meeting her mother. Now I know where she gets her good looks, and athletic ability. :D

I rolled out solo about 7:20. I was disapointed in the road markings, especially at the start. They said the rain washed them away, however at different parts of the course it was obvious they were recently painted ? There was a bit of stopping and looking at the map for me.

I'm glad to hear I was not the only one with some legs from the DD last weekend. I rode quite a bit during the week, and my legs were sore all day. I hooked up with some groups here and there. The folks from the Joliet Bike Club were fun to ride with, but after a couple 25 mph pulls into a headwind and some rollers coming up I decided to ride solo at a slower pace.

The rest stops were great, and so plentyfull I blew off a couple of them.

With stopping quite a bit to look at the map, and heading out the wrong direction after one of the stops. I ended up with 108 miles with a saddle time of 5:43 and an average speed just under 19 mph.

KHS it sounds like you had a great ride, and finishing the 124 loop with a 6:23 time is great. :thumb:
Too bad I didn't hook up with you KHS. I bet working together we could of both done a bit better.

yep great ride indeed!!:D Absolutely beautiful day to ride:D

103 miles at an avg of 16.4... around 6:20 riding time... not too shabby for me:innocent:... and I purposely did not draft... because drafting does not make me stronger!:notamused::roflmao2:

Met mridan (hi Dan:thumb:) and got to ride with him a bit... also saw lots of other cyclist friends out there. Cool cycling community we have here in Chicago... fun day:p

I looked for you a little bit in the line before I took off. I probably missed you by about 15 minutes. Did you hook up with 4 guys from Joliet?
