Mountain Biking - HammerSchmidt?

I read others, last week. Nothing new really. Almost a ringer for the Schlumpf Innovations Mountain Drive; although it uses the nice touch of ISCG anti-rotation instead of the teeth or anchor-arm of the Schlumpf.

Not detracting from them - - I love derailleur-less innovations and find the possibilities exciting. I did read rumors that SRAM developed it in conjuction with 'an unnamed German concern,' which I wonder may have been Schlumpf after all? Hmmmm . . . .

That's interesting. This is all news to me, so I thought it was a pretty cool idea. This has been done before though?

Yeah, as dMinor noted, Schlumpf has had this for a while, but it's been expensive. I think of it as neat but not sure I'd dish out the money for this over a traditional setup, but then again I am a XC guy so can't really benefit from a hidden-double-on-a-chain-guide rig.

Might become OE spec on high end bikes. The thing is expensive. Costs more then a good crankset, front derailer, front shifter, and a chain guide. Pretty trick though. In my opinion not really worth the cost.

I'd run that thing with a single cog in the rear.

A couple of friends tried it at Crankworx last week...they said it was awesome. And one of them is a gear ***** so he'll have it on his bike for next year.

At around $600 for either the SRAM or the Schlumf, I think I'd be hard-pressed to spend money like that to get rid of a front derailleur. I think I'd just go to an Envy Double-E2 if I wanted a second ring on my DH/FR rig.

I agree. For that matter, for $600 I could see myself getting some single-speed city bike for fast commuting.

Yah, but for a sissy Kansas girl like myself...it would be a way to have the simplicity of a killa SS with a cheater for climbing.

Sure... but if you're going to shell out that kind of money, its better to get a Rohloff IGH. Expensive but well made with 14 speeds!
