I recently bought a pair of these wheels (which I love). I have a quick question for anyone who has this particular set. Is rim tape supposed to be used? On the mavic website it says not to use it but my LBS put the strips in after I bought them. Any insight? Thanks

I don't think there are any exposed spoke holes under the rim strip. Look and see, If not, then you don't need them. Not that they are doing any harm there either.

No rim tape
The 03 SSC SL don't need it either

The only Ksyrium model to date that needs rim strips is the new Equipe. The only thing you need to check for with Ks are burrs around the valve stem hole that can cause flats if not removed.

That is correct, no rim tape is needed!

people used to use a small piece of rim tape or electrical tape around the valve stem hole due to its roughness. the '04 models seem to have been machined down smoother in this area than in prior years.

i even had a buddy take sandpaper and round out the edge around the stem valve hole.

in short, no...no need to rim tape.
