Bicycle Mechanics - Save my Dropouts!

Is there anything I can use to save the dropouts on my aluminum track frame from getting mangled?

well the rear wheel is bolted on as a track wheel should. In doing so i've dug deep gashes into the aluminum dropouts about 1mm or so deep. Would I have to take off the old ones and weld on new steel ones? That would be my last resort. I'd rather put on something that I can easily put over the dropouts to protect them.

Uh... get inside locknuts that are smoother, you can get them in the round-shape with a small flat on them for the cone-wrench. The axle-nuts on the outside can be found with an integrated washer that spins independently from the nut. When you tighten the nut, the washer stays put on the dropout. No gouging!

I know the locknuts your talking about but my dropouts have the damage already I'd like to keep them from getting worse. I was thinking some kind of steel attachment to the dropout. or.. maybe a large washer but I also want to add protection from the axle bolt leaving a gouge in the dropout.

this is kinda what i'm looking for, but it doesnt fit my dropout...

you say they don't fit because your dropout isn't long enough? I'm thinking it might be a tiny bit annoying, but I don't see why they have to be as long as they say, except there appears to be a child proof bulge at the back of the dropouts shown in the auction.

Stop taking your rear wheel off so much.

I could not find the the link for them though.

Use chain tensioners so you don't have to crank down against the aluminum so hard. I am currently using these

It wasn't obvious. Track bikes don't have routine problems with this so the OP's request was a bit obscure.
