i came across a bike this past summer with the motobecane stamp in several places on the frame, but with the name "Astra" on it. also on it is "Tour de France" in decaling. it has french or italian derauillers and brakes. the owner of the local bike store told me it was late 60's or early 70's. i was just wondering if anybody could help me put a history with this bike because i am extremely curious. thanks, mike
do you have a pic? I have seen about 4 motobecanes w/ simplex components at the LBS yesterday. also early 70's models..

i don't have any pics right now......and the bike is currently apart in the garage, and unfortunately, i am away at school right now. i do have some pictures of a frame that looks the same as mine, but i'm not sure how to post them. -mike

just off the top of my head it looks just like the claud buttler i have sitting in euro waiting for me to fix it, but 1) i'm not expert, and 2) clauds usually have their name stencled on the sides. it looks like a decent enough bike though. how much you pay for it? and i hope you have fun restoring it. looks like a fun bike to restore.
cheers

actually didn't pay anything. i work for the street department in my hometown when i'm not at college, and i found the bike in a dumpster while i was at work. also pulled out an old vintage peugeot in almost mint condition. i'm having a great time restoring, but i'm still looking to match an original paint scheme and such, but having the hardest time finding any info about it.
