I got an e-mail today from Honda Motorcars looking for people who think they look like one of their models of cars.

If you do (or think you do) and want to be in a commercial: www.love.honda.com

Let's see.The magnet won't stick so I am not made of steel.Presumably it would stick to Ironman. I have feet made of bone skin and muscle and not rubber tires,I have eyes not headlights and no glass windshield. No I do not look like A Honda!

If anyone ever told me I looked like a Honda Element...

Crap! I broke my pen in half just thinking about it.

The first time I saw one of those, I just couldn't believe how ugly it was. "It looks like a Lego car," I said to myself.

Someone at Honda must have read my mind, because I later saw a commercial in which the Element was put together by Lego blocks. "See? Even they admit it," I said.

That's what I said.

I remember first seeing the Honda Element a year before it was released. I was in the Denver area for a business trip and on my way back to the airport, stopped to fill up the rental car with gas. I spotted three boxy-looking vehicles pull up to the pumps adjacent to me. I glanced inside one of them as the door was open and spotted a bunch of instrumentation. I asked the driver about the vehicle. He told me it was made by Honda and was going to be marketted as the Element. I thought it was the ugliest thing on wheels since the Pontiac Aztek. However, after having been in one and also seeing some of its finer points, it does hold a certain amount of beauty to me and appeals from a practical/utilitarian standpoint. Then again, I'm also fond of the shape of Volvos so maybe my eye for beauty looks out from a different universe than most others.

Now see... given that description, I'd be inclined to want one. ;)

Bless you, my son. It's what's on the inside that counts, after all.
