My apologies if this topic is common guys, I wasn't able to find any definitive answers! For a couple months now I've had this frustrating problem where my gears click and grind. I've had a tune-up at the LBS but the problem persists. It happens when I'm in 1-2 gear on back and 2-3 on front. When I switch the back to a higher gear the noise completely goes away. When I drop back down to 1-2 on front the noise comes back.

It's also hard to get to bike to switch cleanly to the third gear on front. I've twisted the derailleur knob (near the brake) counterclockwise but it really hasn't helped. I really want to fix this problem because I have a big ride this weekend. However I'm just not sure what to do.

Maybe it's a bad dérailleur? From my experience, this problem usually happens when the dérailleur needs to be adjusted or if the cogs need lubrication.

Have you taken it to different bike shops? I have run into times where one mechanic could not fix the problem (or deemed it "unfixable") while another shop took care of it very easily.

Please check your gearing...here is a link of a good tutorial. Your irritating sound may also be affected by your gear choice...aside from a possible front and rear derailler problem.
