The money sign ($) is down the block from me and pretty cool...it's getting alot of attention however I haven't seem a single person lock their bike to it.

Nah, just that Philly beat you to the punch. We've already gotten excited about new & artistic bike racks, debated installing new & artistic bike racks, implemented new & artistic bike racks, used new & artistic bike racks, vandalized new & artistic bike racks, and gotten over new & artistic bike racks.

I have a question about your old bike racks. Could they be overcome with a 2x4? If not, can you please ship them to Toronto? T.I.A.

Locations and renderings of all the Byrne bike racks: http://www.davidbyrne.com/art/bike_racks/index.php

I saw that female silhouette one a couple weeks ago. Sorta cool, but makes for limited bike locking configurations.

I love David Byrnes (at least TH era David Byrnes), but some of these designs are hella impractical as actual bike racks.

Clearly I'm being too literal though.

if its a cycling-related thing that catches the eye of a non-cyclist, it may be a super positive thing.

I agree, it's got the potential to do some good in terms of raising awareness. I wonder with some of the designs if passer-byes will recognize the connection to cycling.

Typical NY post. No need to mention city in thread title because there's only one publication called Metro, right?

“It was important to me that [the racks] be the same thickness and material as the existing racks — to help identify them as practical bike racks and not just modern art,” Byrne said.

I wouldn't have guessed they were bike racks, no matter what thickness they were.

Okay, I may have only been in NYC for two weeks, but why does it seem that everyone is up on David Byrnes' jock?

They should put some bars through the middle of it to give you more locking options. That looks like it might be kind of annoying to use with drop bars, although most racks have the potential to be.

Its not for people who lock bikes up.
Its for people who dont who will walk/drive by and say "dang, thats clever" and then imagine the city is a great place to live or that life is better.
