Electric Bikes - ebike 36V SX

Having trouble with the old ebike and just learned they are out of business. Have really had little trouble with it. Think I left it setting up too long without taking out the battery from the case. It does take a charge but has very little performance and even that dies quickly. The grandkids and myself would appreciate any suggestions. I live in Athens ga and have checked even in the Atlanta area for a bike shop that could help. I may only need new battery (not easy to find) but realize it could be more than that.

I don't think so. That name doesn't show up on any markings or paperwork. It was mfg.by the ebike company in calif. which was the brain child of Lee Iaccoca and was one of the earlier electric bike companies I understand. The markings show only ebike SX and I do know it is a 36 volt. Originally I was told it was to be marketed to local police departments for street patrol...

It sounds like a Zap product (zapworld.com), but I thought those e-bikes were exclusively 12v...

Someone in town here has one of those and she found a place somewhere in your neck of the country that has the replacement battery for your bike. It fits into the compartment. If you can't find it with a google search, let me know and I will contact her and find the name of the store.

I think you are talking about and EV Global Ebike. Very nice bike. You seem to have the 36V model with required a special battery.
Most likely your battery is 7-8 years old and has gone bad.
You can use 3 standard 12V 7-8AH SLAs but one will have to be outside the box.
An alternative is to ditch the SLAs and buy a Lithuim cell. I hear that ping on ebay makes custom packs that will fit the required dimension.
I love this bike and would be willing to buy any parts you don't need or replace.
As for parts they are getting more expensive and harder to find. The chassis is solid but the electronics are not. The hub motor is made by Heinzmann which is a geared brushed motor. on the 36V model it spins the one way bearing. Always pedal first before applying power to reduce the stress on that
bearing. Also apply throttle gradually and not fully from a dead stop. If you do so the hub will last for ever. Otherwise it will become useless.

gmouchawar---You've got my bike pegged. I have a trucking company with a pretty savy maintenance guy. I think I will see if he can connect with an electric shop that might match the voltage and check the hub before spending on the batteries first. The bike will pull albeit not close to what it normally would do and it pulls down the charge on the battery within less than a minute. I seldom depend on the battery to "ride" me just to assist. But the comment you make about the bearing reminds me, there is a slight "squeaking" sound when trying to engage the motor. That squeak does resemble the sound of a "dry" bearing if that is possible. The bike did set up for several months when I was unable to ride. I've also got to find out where and what the Controller does. Where's a schematic when you need one.

There is nothing wrong with your ebike from what I can tell. If the bearing was spun, the bike wouldn't move. Just be gentle on it.
Save your money and don't take it to a shop. That makes me nervous as they may hack it up. Just buy a new battery which you would have to make up from 312v standard cell. That custom 36v battery is rare to find.

Foud solution for a 36V ev global ebike battery. It is a combination of standard 6 and 12V batteries. You sacrifies 1AH but the batteries would be common.

Morning and thanks for the mail. Is this something I can buy that will fit in the case as a unit or do I purchase seperately? One of the fellows who works with me had found a name of a company on the current battery and emailed them. I think Taiwan maybe and did get a response but have been reluctant to order it. It is a pay by credit card up front deal. Also I've been covered up dealing with this economy and our business but getting back on the bike would help with the stress.

The solution will still fit into your current battery case.
Here is how to do it.

There are 2 ways"
1- buy 2 6V 7AH SLA. Dimensions are 5.91x1.35x3.71
2- buy 2 12V 7AH SLA. Dimensions are 5.94x2.56x3.68
You put 12V and one 6V side by side in two columns inside the existing box.
The box takes ~6x4x8 so it should fit the 4 batteries. Wire all of them in Series and you get 36V at 7AH. That is 1AH less than the stock but it is with standard cells.
The second way is to buy 6 6V 7AH 5.91x1.35x3.71 and put them in a 3x2 configuration. This should also give you 36V and 7AH. Probably easier and better than option 1 because all the batteries will come from the same batch (most likely if bought together). They will match each other better. The con is that you have more wiring to do but that is not a big deal.

I know it's been a few months since you posted but i know there is a dude down in Opalacka Florida that specializes in servicing the ebikes. It is the one by Lee Iacocca correct? I own an electric bike shop in stuart, florida and have received many calls about those discontinued bikes. Hope this helps.
