Foo - tiny laptop

What's a good tiny laptop?

I could live w/ a 14-15" screen but might prefer 12". I really want it <5# w/ the ac/dc converter for the plug. Do they make one like that? Pretty much gotta be PC not mac.

I use a 10" or a 12" laptop at work, Panasonic toughbook. This is something you don't want to buy unless you really need it, however.

<$2k That 1st one w/ the 4" screen is cool but a little too cool, gotta keep it up to 12-13...

What sort of specifications do you seek? Is this something for engineering/field use, my friend? Or is this for an ultra portable desktop, for web surfing, moving watching, etc.

I have a solid state linux model= works great, easy to carry, keyboard is compact but not tiny,
2 hrs battery life, not hugely expensive (as laptops go).

I stumbled onto Lenovo they might be looking good. It is for number-crunching first and foremost but I do need to take it on the road for taking notes of meetings and such. Don't picture much outdoor use. I have a 17" laptop right now w/ like a 3 pound converter block (it has <1 hr running on the battery) and it is like toting a cinder block around. But my 4 yrs are up and I'm due for a new one. My current one is a gateway and they don't seem to have anything small at all.

In order of importance I need ram>processor>>>video (although I hope to plug into a monitor when I'm at my regular desk) (don't really need video performance at all but I like a high screen res) 160GB HD seems to leave a really safe cushion.

Solid state might make it out of your price range slightly. You'd probably be better off with a 5400rpm...

HP has one a itsy-bitsy laptop with an optional standard hard drive, and then ASUS has the new 901 series EEE PC. =)

I have the Asus 701 series with the smaller screen. Linux =)

I think he is using this for business, meaning linux may not work for him.
Of course he could always dual boot. The envy 133 comes with linux preloaded, dual boot setup.

I like Dell XPS M1330 **BUT** recently it's had a problem which I believe is related to faulty nVidia GeForce 8400 graphics chipset (or more specifically, lack of cooling for said chipset). This has melted the graphics chip's connector (it's me speculating) and I'll talk to Dell about getting it fixed up next week.

I read some bad stuff about nVidia GeForce 8400 and 8600 (google it with "and problems") chips so you might wanna check that out and go for ATI instead. Also check out www.notebookreview.com.

Now my Dell is not working, I miss it. And I even miss Vista. :(

Heres my wifes laptop (compared to our desk top and my hand) shes had it FOREVER and loves it to death! :love: Even tho its old, slow as heck, and outdated! (but its a touch screen!:lol: )

I've use a Dell Inspiron 700m as my only computer. It has a 12" widescreen (1280x800) and weighs 4 lbs. It's been a great machine although it's 4 years old. I'm not sure if they're still available.
