Saturday, we will go the the Velodrome for a beginner session on the track. You show up with pedals and rent an old track bike. A supervisor provides instruction and takes the group for a workout. It sounds pretty simple.

I was talking with a guy and he said that I should plan to be on the circle to catch my wife:eek: as she attempts to stop. The circle is a round paved area inside the main track that is level and you can go very slow. He said, at first, some riders have trouble uncleating with the pedals constantly moving and of course there are no brakes.

Who is going to catch me?:eek::eek::notamused:

Please cancel my reservation. It was not necessary! It was a fun time at the track and starting, stopping and riding were easy. The supervisor did a great job. In the first time group, we had a broad range of capability and a couple riders appeared frozen when it came to starting as well as stopping. I did not see any falls but a rider rode into the infield grass just in case. All aspects of the track including track design, systems and procedures and skills are designed to allow positive control of the track bike and rider safety.

We did some warm up laps and then started a series of skills building. My take away is that the track bike is a lot of fun to ride on the track. It has a very pure feeling.:)

Almost (heavy on the almost) makes me wish there were something similar around here. Sadly, all of our local roundy rounds with left turns only are dirt/mud and have really loud cars on them. Somehow I doubted the Tombay necessity for you or the Diva.

Uh-oh, my crystal ball says two new track bikes in the near future added to the Velo Diva/Hermes fleet. :p:thumb:
