It's been a while since I've posted. Can't quite find any online bikeshops that will ship for less than 20 bucks for any item anymore...bikeshed and bikeroom are no more. There's bikecanada but their prices aren't exactly spectacular. In any case, I'm looking for a crankset, something budget but decent. The Deore or Deore LX hollowtech II from shimano look great at 130-150 a pop in the shops with the BB but I'm hoping to get even lower online... ;)

Any recommendations, fellow canucks?

I live in B.C., I usually buy in the U.S., online. I have never had to pay duty. Takes a bit longer to get to me, but Canada post is pretty slow. Prices are better in the U.S. and more selection.

For a lot of stuff, I go to www.chainreactioncycles.com in the UK. Somehow, the stuff gets here faster than from the US, and there's no duty or GST on most items! [I had $500 worth of stuff shipped to me last week - no duty or GST] Deore crank for $65 + shipping. (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22924) Deore LX crank for $85 + shipping (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25146).

Same here. It comes all the way from the UK but is super fast. Since it goes via registered mail that means it arrives with Canada Post. As pinkrobe noted, very often Canada Post doesn't charge duties or taxes. There also is a free shipping with a minimum of $ spent, so if you have buddies that need stuff you can combine your orders.

Other than Chain Reaction I also use http://mtnhighcyclery.com, but in this case I simply send an email and get the stuff in the mail. Larry has very competitive prices and charges actual shipping via postal service.
