Hi everyone,
I own a pair of Shimano r090 road shoes but have yet to buy a pair of pedals for my bike. I mainly intend to use my bike for road use (Trek XO1), but also want to be able to go on slightly rougher (and maybe muddier) trails, nothing too rough though.
I was just wondering what pedals anyone would suggest for good road performance but still would be ok on slightly (but not very), rough terrain? Shimano, Look and Crank Bros brands seem to be the easiest for me to get hold of around here, any of these make a pedal that would suit my needs?
Also would my road shoes be ok for use on terrain that is a little rougher than the road?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would suggest one of the following:

Time ATAC family (http://www.timesportusa.com/atacpedals.html) (the XS isn't shown on that page... they're new but look real good and use the same ATAC mechanism as the other pedals)
Speedplay Frog family (http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.frog)
Crank Bros. Eggbeaters or Candy family (http://www.crankbrothers.com/products/pedals.php)

As for shoes, I would consider going with something like Sidi Dominators if you intend to be walking through any kind of mud.

Road shoes have no tread so a mountian shoe, like the Dominator, would be a better choice. Also, while off road cleats will fit on most road shoes, they make it that much harder to walk in them.
The ATACs work very well in muddy conditions.
