I can't go, but you should and then go back to Cleveland to transfom the landscape, before I go back to visit my mother in the fall. Thanks for work, in advance. Noone will ever make fun of my home town again!

July 19-24, 2004 - Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany
wow, sounds interesting. i would seriously think about going (since that's only a few hours by train from Munich), but my TransAlp Challenge tour is July 17-24... but it is definitely nice to know that at least some people are trying to do something positive for human society!
Oddly, living in Germany now for 3 years I have become less of an activist for cycling (i still ride just as much or more!) - probably simply because everything here is pretty good - good public transit, small dense city with good cycling support where i can reach almost any destination with bike or bike/transit - so i don't feel as motivated to affect change.
as i have posted previously in other threads: i am currently working in another city 180 miles away and i ride my bike 10 minutes to the train station, take the regional train to the city center, transfer with my bike to a local train for 10 minutes as the office is in the outer suburbs (means 5-6 miles from the center), then ride 10 minutes to my office/hotel - 3:35 minutes and i drove it for comparision the other week and by leaving early to avoid traffic and driving 100mph on the autobahn it took me 3:30! so i take the train and sleep/read! in the US if it even were possible to take the train it would probably not work out as the cities are so spread out the distance from the central train station to the office park would probably be 20+ miles!
but man do i cringe at the idea of living in ugly, sprawl-ridden, everything-looks-the-same, un-bike-friendly Anytown USA (Portland or Boulder or similar would be tolerable) -- ok, sorry, just had to get that out!
yah, thanks, nathank
that's sweet, cheers to your challange.
must be nice :)
