I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who is intimately familiar with the Killarney Lake, Cave Lake, etc. area? I'm looking for a reasonable alternate route around the closed section of the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes from Medimont to Springton. We are currently planning to leave a vehicle in Medimont as a shuttle but, I'd like to ride the entire way. I've already mapped an alternate route using Google Earth which follows Forest Service roads on the other side of the river beginning with the Killarney Lake Road, then Chatfield Road, then NFS Road (Google Earth doesn't show road number but we will take it to Blue Creek Lake Rd.), and then down to Blue lake and Harrison. Of course, anyone who knows this area understands that riding a bike on the highway would be suicidal.

My father will be traveling with us and isn't partial to large hill climbs. The route I've mapped would involve around 1000' of climb over a few miles. I'm pretty familiar with this area, in general, as I grew up in the Silver Valley but, I'm just haven't spent time exploring the roads on the Northern side of the lakes.

My question is if there are reasonable roads which skirt the lower elevation along the lakes on the Northern side that I'm just not able to see on Google Earth?

Anyone?

Search this forum for Coeur

Maybe you can PM one of the people that have ridden it?

Thanks Bill. I think we'll stick with our shuttle plan. I think it would take someone who lives and recreates in the Harrison, Cave Lake, Rose Lake are to know those roads and lakes well enough. Do they have internet there yet...? Just kidding.

Maybe not?

I have a couple cousins that live some where in that general area and they both have homebuilt log houses. I only assume they have indoor plumbing!:)

Do a search on Bentrider online (http://www.bentrideronline.com/). They had a tour go through there recently and should be able to find someone with information on that area.
